The phone comes complete with Google Earth. It even gives you a rough idea of where you are, using the signals from the cell phone towers. That’s kinda cool (and also handy if you are in another town and can’t be bothered carrying a Navman around with you!).

My niece and nephew (who are twins) are turning seven next month, so I decided it was time to but their presents.

I bought a clock for Ruby. But it’s not just any ordinary clock – you get to paint it yourself. She’s at that age when children learn how to tell the time, so I figured this would be a good way to help her out.

Tom will getting some Lego. Tom doesn’t have much patience, so anything that can be put together quickly is good. I got him some Lego at Christmas and he loved it.

I bought two pairs of new shoes today. One pair are casual shoes that I will wear on the weekend, while the other pair are smart shoes that I will wear to work.

I had my previous sneakers for about five years, and my smart shoes were even older than that. They were well and truly past it. The shoes were held together with superglue, and even the superglue was struggling to keep the shoes in one piece.

Maybe I need to stop being so thrifty and start replacing my clothes and shoes a bit more regularly.

I’m assuming that the change affects other people too – although I haven’t been game enough to ask in case it was only blocked on my account!

Research has shown that a little bit of personal web surfing can increase productivity during work related activities. As a result, I am surprised that the IT department has blocked Facebook. I can only assume that some people were spending a bit too much time on the site!

They showed him arriving at Auckland Airport. Hoards of teenage girls were waiting to catch a glimpse of him.

It turns out Justin is a teenager who can sing. I watched him on YouTube this morning, and I must admit that he can sing pretty well. But considering he’s such a talented kid and obviously popular with the girls, how has he managed to slip under the radar with the adults? 45% of respondents admit that they hadn’t heard of him in a Stuff poll today.

There were a couple of packages for me in the mailbox today. One was from Amazon, the other was from DealExtreme. The good thing about living in New Zealand is that packages take ages to arrive. As a result, you have totally forgotten what you have ordered by the time the item turns up, and you have the excitement of opening it to see what it is.

It turns out that I had ordered Starship’s album Knee Deep In The Hoopla from Amazon. This is one of those great albums from the eighties that you can pick up dirt cheap. It contains the song We Built This City, which Blender magazine declared to be the worst song of all time back in 2004. But hey, who cares? I like the song, and the other songs on the album too.

The good folk at DealExtreme sent me several things. Firstly, there was a mirror for my monitor at work. It lets me see who is behind me. It is particularly helpful as I have recently moved and now sit in the middle of an open plan office. I can now see when my boss is lurking behind me.

On a more serious note, I bought a clock for my desk. It’s quite a stylish clock too. I like it.

I also got a key ring. The key ring has a built-in digital photo frame. While the instructions aren’t that clear, I managed to work it out by myself and put some photos of my family on the keyring.

Finally, I got this reading light. This will make it easier to read in bed at night.

I am quite impressed with what I got. I am going for another look around DealExtreme so that I can get another surprise in a couple of weeks.

While I’m not the world’s biggest Cat Stevens fan, I do like his music. And as I’ve never actually been to a concert before, I reckon I might have to go to this one.

I like the timing of this concert. Concerts in Christchurch usually end up being during the week or on a Sunday night. Cat Steven’s concert, however, is on a Friday night. This means that I won’t have to get up early to go to work the next day. Hooray!

Today is Anzac Day. Anzac Day is the day when New Zealanders and Australians commemorate those who have served and died in armed conflict for our countries. Many people take part in the dawn parades and ceremonies that are held early in the morning.

Two unfortunate events happened on Anzac Day this year. Firstly, a helicopter carrying air force personnel crashed just north of Wellington. Three people died. Secondly, several people were hospitalised in Melbourne after being hit by a truck. The truck belongs to the Ceylon Ex-service Association, and the truck and people were taking part in a parade. It is unclear at the stage why the truck suddenly accelerated.
