Advertising on Audio Streams
27 September 2007
I listen to radio stations online. These include networked stations from New Zealand and the UK, as well as local Brisbane and Sydney stations. The audio streams contain ads promoting firms from whereever the audio stream originates, so I usually have to put up with ads for products and services only available in Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney or London. I have often wondered why the stations don't insert generic ads for products that are available worldwide, such as Coca Cola. Surely it can't be *that* difficult!
This may be starting to change. Newstalk ZB is now running an ad for a running shoe at the beginning of its audio streams, while Triple M is running an ad for burbon. How long will it be before generic ads are inserted in to normal ad breaks? This would keep the bean counters happy, and ensure that the audio streams and other online services don't disappear in to the sunset any time soon.
