Web Design Standards
19 February 2008
I am designing another web site at the moment. It is rather complicated in terms of the layout. I am using CSS to help get everything right. I have always been amused at how a site can look fine in one browser but look awful in another. I even remember back in the mid-nineties, when I first started using the Internet, that a site would look different in two different browsers. So much for standards! Browser developers would even ignore the standards and introduce their own tags - remember the infamous <blink> and <marquee> tags?
As a friend of mine once said, the good thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from. That is certainly true when it comes to web design. But I guess that is what makes the job so interesting.
