Another Wiki Appears On The Scene
23 April 2008
I found out about another Wiki today. This one is called Monopowiki. Whereas other wikis either let you edit pages for free or ask you to hand over your hard-earned cash, Monopowiki let's you decide whether you want to hand over your money or not! Many of the pages on the site are available for anybody to edit. However, if you would like to control a page by yourself, just hand over $25 and the page is yours for a year.
Signing up with Monopowiki is pretty easy - you just have to provide a username and password. I have created a brief page on New Zealand and found the process to be simple. (Yeah, okay, I don't think I'm going to be selected to edit the next Encyclopaedia Britannica, but you get an idea as to what can be done!)
One issue that is not clear on the site is whether the paid-for pages will be different from free pages. Will I be able to know which pages have been created by experts in the field and which ones are advertorials? I would hope that a disclaimer it inserted at the top of the pages where the author has paid for the rights to the page. Failure to do this will cast doubts over the quality of the site.
