Alexa Rankings

As many bloggers will know by now, Alexa has changed their traffic ranking system. The previous system was based on the Alexa toolbar that many people had installed on their computers, and so was biased in favour of those sites that were visited by webmasters, techies and nerds. Alexa has now changed their algorithms and added more sources of data so that the data represents sites that are visited by the general population.
While the change resulted in a drop in my ranking, I guess the change is for the better. The old system could easily be manipulated by knowing where and how to promote your site (and is the main reason that I joined up with Entrecard!). The new system will hopefully be more accurate and that, I guess, is a good thing.
